In the early years of quilting, it was often an art form utilized to voice opposition to injustice? The curator of Toledo’s Museum of Art, Lauren Applebaum, states, “Quilts have always engaged the pressing social and political issues of their time. They have been deployed throughout history by marginalized people to confront instances of violence, oppression and exclusion.” We’re helping continue the tradition in the face of the worst human slavery the world has ever seen.
